For a room of people
Talk to whoever disagrees with you most
Everyone says where they stand on statements about ethics, minds, AI and the rest. Then the room pairs up with the people furthest away from them, a few minutes at a time, and says where they stand afterwards.
How it goes
- Everyone scans the join link and gives a name.
- Everyone answers statements: how much they agree, from −100 to 100, or for some questions what probability they give it. Either on a bingo card dealt to them, or as many as they like.
- You start a round. Everybody is paired with the person they disagree with most, on the statement they are furthest apart on, and the clock runs.
- When it runs out, everybody says where they stand now. Then the next round, with somebody new.
Between rounds, each phone also shows the people who disagree with it most, so people can go and find each other by themselves. On a bingo card, every statement you talk about is marked; a full line is a bingo.
Speed updating is a format EA groups have run on paper. Thanks to Noah Birnbaum for the idea.
